I spotted this little guy this morning on the sidewalk in Alexandria, VA. Just south of Crystal City. Looks rattle-snakish.
ewwww! that’s where i go ‘all girl’ and totally freak out and run and squeal and ewwww! and you placed your foot that close and took a picture! eeeeek!
my sister is a science teacher and has always loved snakes. she always has at least one as a pet and thinks it’s fun feeding it live food and watching it eat. again … i go ‘all girl’ there, too! she’s even pet-sit snakes for others.
a grew up in florida w/a brother a year younger and we went to reptile farms, so my intense aversion to all reptiles, including snakes, is not created by my parents. but i still hate them!
I used my foot to show scale. I could have used a dime. It looked like a caterpillar at first it was so small. Not the sort of thing one sees every day.

Not the rattley kind. More of the Colubridae family. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colubridae
Thanks for taking all the fun out of it. You weren’t there, man. You didn’t see the evil look in its eye. It would have bit me if it could, being already dead and all. You had to be there.
Got to be a little careful. The young ones have more concentrated venom. Although I guess if it was dead it wouldn’t matter as much.
