This story tells us that half of all Americans have diabetes or “pre-diabetes”. Care to guess what “pre-diabetes” is? It is NOT having diabetes. Even though the number of diabetics patients in the USA has leveled off at 12-14%, the story still makes the claim that 50% of the population is at risk with the underlying common motif: WE MUST DO SOMETHING.
The study is based on surveys involving in-home exams and questionnaires. It was published in Tuesday’s Journal of the American Medical Association.
Just another example of fraud in scientific journal publishing. Just another example of clueless journalists doing scientific reporting without understanding even the most basic scientific principles. Just another example of a scientific study that is made to fit an advocacy group that wants to control your diet.
I am on the ragged edge of being a diabetic, mostly due to my insane sweet tooth. I have been working hard at clawing myself back from that edge, just to make sure I don’t graduate someday into a diabetic. I do this mostly, you guessed it, so I can continue to eat the occasional bowl of ice cream when I’m 70, if I live that long. Hell, I never expected to live THIS long. it’s a good thing to pay attention, but as you say, the obsessiveness is just stupid.

This is typical of activists where they group a very bad thing with low numbers along with a very mild thing with high numbers to make the numbers big as a call for greater activism = $$CHA-CHING$$ for activists.
Like linking sexual assault with sexual harassment. “he noticed my boobs” = “he raped me”

The affect this has is minimizing the actual victims while making victim hood a sacrament. Morons.

True. But it is never about the victims. It’s about the activists.

Exactly. They have to create more victims to show that their Activisim is valid.
