Ever noticed we call it the “birth canal” when someone is coming out, and a “vagina” (or other more colorful terms) when someone is going in?
The news lately tells us that Planned Parenthood has been caught selling fetal body parts for fun and profit. They defend their actions as “it’s not MUCH profit”.
Anti-abortion activists are outraged because selling “body parts” or any human derived tissue is illegal in the USA. And they are outraged because… babies.
The national news media is not at all outraged. Nor can they seem to even notice that anything is amiss. Not at all surprizing. The same teams, taking the same positions.
What is especially irritating to me is the pro-life group making a big deal about this. Our civilized society specifically prohibits the sale of human tissues specifically to prevent the cash incentive being used to kill living people. Not the other way around. There is absolutely nothing special about human remains that deserve special protection under the law, apart from safeguarding the source from murder and despoil. And we have already lost that battle.
I am all for the sale of fetal remains. I find nothing distasteful about it in the least. If Old people’s remains had any residual value, they should be considered part of the estate and disposed of as the heirs see fit. But as the Bard once quipped, “if they shall have them as I leave them, will yield, little.”
The protection of life is the issue. The protection of medical waste is trivial.
