USS Liberty Fail

I have seen two features on the USS Liberty in as many days.  Here is the latest.

It amazes me that seemingly intelligent people can latch onto an issue and cling to it tenaciously without thinking about what it really means.

The facts are that the USS Liberty was attacked by Israeli planes and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967.  The end.

Present were a number of surviving crewmembers as well as veterans like myself and other Americans who are committed to ensuring that the story of the Liberty will not die in hopes that someday the United States government will have the courage to acknowledge what actually happened on that fateful day.

Did I miss something?  What actually happened that day is not and has never been in dispute.  I will say it again.  The facts are that the USS Liberty was attacked by Israeli planes and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967. The end.

The attack was followed by a cover-up that demonstrated clearly that at least one president of the United States even back nearly fifty years ago valued his relationship with the state of Israel above his loyalty to his own country.

What kind of delusional thinking is this author participating in?  What would “loyalty to his own country” even look like?  Declare war on Israel?  Make them apologize?  Would a secret apology be enough?  How about a secret apology that happened back in 1967 that you weren’t invited to, because it was… secret?

The Israelis and their political and media supporters in the United States have always claimed the attack was a tragic mistake while many of the Liberty crew have indicated their firm belief that it was anything but, that the vessel was flying an oversized American flag and was clearly and easily identifiable as a US Navy vessel.

See?  The Israelis admit they did it.  No coverup at all.  And the word “tragic mistake” also include the mistaken decision to intentionally attack a wrong target.

The Liberty crew was sworn to secrecy over the incident …

WHAT??? A spy ship, Spying on allies and their enemies, was sworn to secrecy about their SECRET mission?  I. Am. Shocked.  Shocked.

One has to hope that both Lyndon Johnson and Robert McNamara are now burning in hell as a consequence of their treason.

Get a grip people.  It is NOT treason for a President of the United States to issue a determination with political and foreign policy consequence.  What is the alternative?  invade Israel?  Is it preferable to take the path of modern presidents and promise to “bring them to justice” and then to absolutely nothing?

Above all, what happened to the Liberty should serve as a lesson for all those who believe that the persistent pandering to Israel by America’s political class really doesn’t matter…

Seriously?  Above all?  That is the lesson of the Liberty?  I would have thought it would be something more like, “don’t park your spy ships too close to active war zones”.  But we now see the real point behind this article.  The Author’s “I hate Jews” cred is established.

They are wrong as the USS Liberty incident reveals that there is a price to be paid in blood when one accommodates a rogue state like Israel.

Yep.  If you didn’t see it before, the “rogue state” designation pretty much seals the deal.

The facts are that the USS Liberty was attacked by Israeli planes and torpedo boats on June 8, 1967. The end.

What could have been done by the US Government?

  1. We could have not spied on Israel.
  2. We could have asked their permission to spy on them.
  3. We could have offered to actually help them in their war. Instead, “the most pro-Israel president evah” sat on his hands and watched as Israel was in their second of three wars of anihilation.

What could we have done after the attack?

  1. We could have declared war on Israel and sent our fleets and armored divisions to help the united Arab Armies push Israel into the sea.
  2. We could have demanded reparations paid from a country that, at the time, was locked in a death struggle and had no money.
  3. We could have apologized for spying on them.
  4. We could have sworn we would not rest until the criminals (pilots and boat captains) had been found and brought to justice, and then rested and done nothing.

Instead our government and their government decided to just call the whole thing a tragic accident.  Seems like a pretty good alternative.  Almost “diplomatic“.
